SVG vs BMP: what changes when you convert

SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) was introduced in 2001 by the W3C and is best known for icons, logos, and illustrations that must stay sharp at any size. BMP (Bitmap Image File), created by Microsoft, is the better choice when you need legacy windows applications.

Why convert? BMP files are usually larger than SVG, but you gain legacy windows applications. note that SVG transparency is not supported in BMP — transparent areas are filled with a white background.

Upload one file or a whole batch — conversion happens over a secure HTTPS connection and finished files are automatically deleted from our servers within minutes. BMP stores raw uncompressed pixels — files are enormous compared with any modern format.

Frequently
Asked
Questions

Quick answers about this PurePDF workflow.

How do I convert SVG to BMP?

Upload your SVG files on this page. PurePDF opens the conversion workspace with BMP preselected — click Convert and collect the finished files from the download hub.

What happens to transparency when converting to BMP?

BMP does not support transparency. Transparent areas in your SVG file are filled with a solid white background. If you need to keep transparency, convert to PNG or WebP instead.

Can I convert an animated SVG?

BMP is a still-image format, so the first frame of the animation is converted. To keep motion, use a video format or keep the original.

Why is my BMP file larger than the original SVG?

BMP prioritizes compatibility over compression, so files are usually larger than SVG. That is normal and expected.

Is the SVG to BMP converter free?

Yes — free with no signup, no watermarks, and no daily task limit.

Are my files private?

Files are transferred over encrypted HTTPS, processed, and automatically deleted from our servers within minutes. Nothing is stored, shared, or used for anything else.

Can I batch convert multiple SVG files?

Yes. Upload as many SVG files as you need and convert them to BMP in one run.
