JPG vs AVIF: what changes when you convert
JPG (JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group)) was introduced in 1992 by the Joint Photographic Experts Group and is best known for photos, social media, email attachments. AVIF (AV1 Image File Format), created by the Alliance for Open Media (Google, Netflix, Mozilla), is the better choice when you need maximum web compression — typically 50% smaller than jpg.
Why convert? AVIF files are typically much smaller than JPG — expect a noticeable reduction in file size.
Upload one file or a whole batch — conversion happens over a secure HTTPS connection and finished files are automatically deleted from our servers within minutes. Most desktop image editors and older devices cannot open AVIF yet.
