SVG vs PNG: what changes when you convert

SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) was introduced in 2001 by the W3C and is best known for icons, logos, and illustrations that must stay sharp at any size. PNG (Portable Network Graphics), created by the PNG Development Group as a GIF replacement, is the better choice when you need logos, screenshots, ui graphics, images that need transparency.

Why convert? PNG files are usually larger than SVG, but you gain pixel-perfect lossless quality. PNG opens on every modern browser and os, so the converted file works anywhere you send it.

Upload one file or a whole batch — conversion happens over a secure HTTPS connection and finished files are automatically deleted from our servers within minutes. PNG photos are pixel-perfect but often 5–10× larger than an equivalent JPG.

Frequently
Asked
Questions

Quick answers about this PurePDF workflow.

How do I convert SVG to PNG?

Upload your SVG files on this page. PurePDF opens the conversion workspace with PNG preselected — click Convert and collect the finished files from the download hub.

Will converting SVG to PNG reduce quality?

No. PNG supports lossless compression, so every pixel of your SVG image is preserved exactly.

Is transparency preserved when converting SVG to PNG?

Yes. Both SVG and PNG support alpha transparency, so transparent backgrounds survive the conversion intact.

Can I convert an animated SVG?

PNG is a still-image format, so the first frame of the animation is converted. To keep motion, use a video format or keep the original.

Why is my PNG file larger than the original SVG?

PNG prioritizes lossless quality over compression, so files are usually larger than SVG. That is normal and expected.

Is the SVG to PNG converter free?

Yes — free with no signup, no watermarks, and no daily task limit.

Are my files private?

Files are transferred over encrypted HTTPS, processed, and automatically deleted from our servers within minutes. Nothing is stored, shared, or used for anything else.

Can I batch convert multiple SVG files?

Yes. Upload as many SVG files as you need and convert them to PNG in one run.
