WEBP vs JPG: what changes when you convert

WEBP (WebP) was introduced in 2010 by Google and is best known for website images — smaller than jpg and png at the same quality. JPG (JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group)), created by the Joint Photographic Experts Group, is the better choice when you need photos, social media, email attachments.

Why convert? JPG files are usually larger than WEBP, but you gain photos, social media, email attachments. JPG opens on every browser and device ever made, so the converted file works anywhere you send it. note that WEBP transparency is not supported in JPG — transparent areas are filled with a white background.

Upload one file or a whole batch — conversion happens over a secure HTTPS connection and finished files are automatically deleted from our servers within minutes. Re-saving a JPG repeatedly degrades quality a little each time.

Frequently
Asked
Questions

Quick answers about this PurePDF workflow.

How do I convert WEBP to JPG?

Upload your WEBP files on this page. PurePDF opens the conversion workspace with JPG preselected — click Convert and collect the finished files from the download hub.

Will converting WEBP to JPG reduce quality?

JPG uses lossy compression, so there is a small quality trade-off in exchange for a much smaller file. At the default quality setting the difference is invisible for photos and everyday images.

What happens to transparency when converting to JPG?

JPG does not support transparency. Transparent areas in your WEBP file are filled with a solid white background. If you need to keep transparency, convert to PNG or WebP instead.

Can I convert an animated WEBP?

JPG is a still-image format, so the first frame of the animation is converted. To keep motion, use a video format or keep the original.

Is the WEBP to JPG converter free?

Yes — free with no signup, no watermarks, and no daily task limit.

Are my files private?

Files are transferred over encrypted HTTPS, processed, and automatically deleted from our servers within minutes. Nothing is stored, shared, or used for anything else.

Can I batch convert multiple WEBP files?

Yes. Upload as many WEBP files as you need and convert them to JPG in one run.
