How it works

In short

How the Age Calculator works

Your exact age is the number of full years, then full months, then remaining days between your date of birth and the target date. This calculator counts calendar dates in your local time zone, not elapsed hours, so time zones and daylight saving cannot shift the result by a day.

Guide

How exact age is calculated

The calculator counts the complete years since your date of birth, then the complete months after that, then the days left over. It works on calendar dates in your own time zone rather than on elapsed hours, so a time zone or a daylight-saving change can never move your age by a day.

Totals in hours, minutes, and seconds assume 24-hour days and start at midnight on your date of birth, so they are a whole-day approximation of the time you have been alive.

Guide

How do I calculate the days between two dates?

Open Days between dates and pick a start and an end date. The result shows the number of days and the same span in years, months, and days. By default the end date is not counted, the way you would count nights in a hotel stay. Tick Include the end date to count both the first and the last day, as for a booking that runs through the end date.

Guide

Why do age calculators disagree?

Months have different lengths, so two calculators can split the same span differently. Some count 30-day months, some convert from total days, and some treat the end of a month differently. This calculator always counts whole calendar months, and the table above shows exactly how it treats the cases where tools differ.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my exact age?

Enter your date of birth. The calculator counts complete years, then complete months, then the remaining days up to today, or up to the date you choose.

Can I find my age on a specific date?

Yes. Change the “Age on” date to any past or future date, for example a deadline for an age-limited application.

How many days old am I?

The results show your age as total days, as well as total weeks, months, hours, minutes, and seconds.

How does the birthday countdown work?

It finds your next birthday after the target date and shows the date, the weekday it falls on, and the number of days left.

Which weekday was I born on?

The results include the day of the week of your date of birth.

Why do age calculators sometimes disagree?

Month lengths differ. From January 31 to February 28, some tools say one month and others say 28 days. We count a month as complete only when the same day-of-month is reached, or the last day of a shorter month. People born on February 29 turn a year older on February 28 in non-leap years.
