TIFF vs PNG: what changes when you convert

TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) was introduced in 1986 by Aldus (now Adobe) and is best known for print production, scanning, and archival masters. PNG (Portable Network Graphics), created by the PNG Development Group as a GIF replacement, is the better choice when you need logos, screenshots, ui graphics, images that need transparency.

Why convert? PNG files are typically much smaller than TIFF — expect a noticeable reduction in file size. TIFF files are huge and browsers refuse to show them, so they need conversion for any web use. Converting to PNG solves that instantly.

Upload one file or a whole batch — conversion happens over a secure HTTPS connection and finished files are automatically deleted from our servers within minutes. PNG photos are pixel-perfect but often 5–10× larger than an equivalent JPG.

Frequently
Asked
Questions

Quick answers about this PurePDF workflow.

How do I convert TIFF to PNG?

Upload your TIFF files on this page. PurePDF opens the conversion workspace with PNG preselected — click Convert and collect the finished files from the download hub.

Will converting TIFF to PNG reduce quality?

No. PNG supports lossless compression, so every pixel of your TIFF image is preserved exactly.

Is transparency preserved when converting TIFF to PNG?

Yes. Both TIFF and PNG support alpha transparency, so transparent backgrounds survive the conversion intact.

How much smaller will my file be as PNG?

It depends on the image content, but PNG typically produces significantly smaller files than TIFF. Photographic images see the biggest savings.

Is the TIFF to PNG converter free?

Yes — free with no signup, no watermarks, and no daily task limit.

Are my files private?

Files are transferred over encrypted HTTPS, processed, and automatically deleted from our servers within minutes. Nothing is stored, shared, or used for anything else.

Can I batch convert multiple TIFF files?

Yes. Upload as many TIFF files as you need and convert them to PNG in one run.
