TIFF vs JPG: what changes when you convert
TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) was introduced in 1986 by Aldus (now Adobe) and is best known for print production, scanning, and archival masters. JPG (JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group)), created by the Joint Photographic Experts Group, is the better choice when you need photos, social media, email attachments.
Why convert? JPG files are typically much smaller than TIFF — expect a noticeable reduction in file size. TIFF files are huge and browsers refuse to show them, so they need conversion for any web use. Converting to JPG solves that instantly. note that TIFF transparency is not supported in JPG — transparent areas are filled with a white background.
Upload one file or a whole batch — conversion happens over a secure HTTPS connection and finished files are automatically deleted from our servers within minutes. Re-saving a JPG repeatedly degrades quality a little each time.

Frequently
Asked
Questions
Quick answers about this PurePDF workflow.
How do I convert TIFF to JPG?
Upload your TIFF files on this page. PurePDF opens the conversion workspace with JPG preselected — click Convert and collect the finished files from the download hub.
Will converting TIFF to JPG reduce quality?
JPG uses lossy compression, so there is a small quality trade-off in exchange for a much smaller file. At the default quality setting the difference is invisible for photos and everyday images.
What happens to transparency when converting to JPG?
JPG does not support transparency. Transparent areas in your TIFF file are filled with a solid white background. If you need to keep transparency, convert to PNG or WebP instead.
How much smaller will my file be as JPG?
It depends on the image content, but JPG typically produces significantly smaller files than TIFF. Photographic images see the biggest savings.
Is the TIFF to JPG converter free?
Yes — free with no signup, no watermarks, and no daily task limit.
Are my files private?
Files are transferred over encrypted HTTPS, processed, and automatically deleted from our servers within minutes. Nothing is stored, shared, or used for anything else.
Can I batch convert multiple TIFF files?
Yes. Upload as many TIFF files as you need and convert them to JPG in one run.
