HEIC vs BMP: what changes when you convert
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) was introduced in 2017 by the MPEG group; adopted by Apple in iOS 11 and is best known for iphone camera photos (half the size of jpg at the same quality). BMP (Bitmap Image File), created by Microsoft, is the better choice when you need legacy windows applications.
Why convert? BMP files are usually larger than HEIC, but you gain legacy windows applications. HEIC photos from an iPhone routinely fail to open on Windows PCs and Android phones. Converting to BMP solves that instantly. note that HEIC transparency is not supported in BMP — transparent areas are filled with a white background.
