WEBP vs HEIC: what changes when you convert

WEBP (WebP) was introduced in 2010 by Google and is best known for website images — smaller than jpg and png at the same quality. HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container), created by the MPEG group; adopted by Apple in iOS 11, is the better choice when you need iphone camera photos (half the size of jpg at the same quality).

Why convert? HEIC files are typically much smaller than WEBP — expect a noticeable reduction in file size.

Upload one file or a whole batch — conversion happens over a secure HTTPS connection and finished files are automatically deleted from our servers within minutes. HEIC photos from an iPhone routinely fail to open on Windows PCs and Android phones.

Frequently
Asked
Questions

Quick answers about this PurePDF workflow.

How do I convert WEBP to HEIC?

Upload your WEBP files on this page. PurePDF opens the conversion workspace with HEIC preselected — click Convert and collect the finished files from the download hub.

Will converting WEBP to HEIC reduce quality?

HEIC uses lossy compression, so there is a small quality trade-off in exchange for a much smaller file. At the default quality setting the difference is invisible for photos and everyday images.

Is transparency preserved when converting WEBP to HEIC?

Yes. Both WEBP and HEIC support alpha transparency, so transparent backgrounds survive the conversion intact.

Can I convert an animated WEBP?

HEIC is a still-image format, so the first frame of the animation is converted. To keep motion, use a video format or keep the original.

How much smaller will my file be as HEIC?

It depends on the image content, but HEIC typically produces significantly smaller files than WEBP. Photographic images see the biggest savings.

Is the WEBP to HEIC converter free?

Yes — free with no signup, no watermarks, and no daily task limit.

Are my files private?

Files are transferred over encrypted HTTPS, processed, and automatically deleted from our servers within minutes. Nothing is stored, shared, or used for anything else.

Can I batch convert multiple WEBP files?

Yes. Upload as many WEBP files as you need and convert them to HEIC in one run.
