GIF vs BMP: what changes when you convert
GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) was introduced in 1987 by CompuServe and is best known for simple animations and memes. BMP (Bitmap Image File), created by Microsoft, is the better choice when you need legacy windows applications.
Why convert? BMP files are usually larger than GIF, but you gain legacy windows applications. note that GIF transparency is not supported in BMP — transparent areas are filled with a white background. animated GIFs are converted using their first frame, since BMP is a still-image format.
