AVIF vs PDF: what changes when you convert
AVIF (AV1 Image File Format) was introduced in 2019 by the Alliance for Open Media (Google, Netflix, Mozilla) and is best known for maximum web compression — typically 50% smaller than jpg. PDF (Portable Document Format), created by Adobe, is the better choice when you need documents, printing, sharing multi-page content.
Why convert? PDF files are usually larger than AVIF, but you gain documents, printing, sharing multi-page content. Most desktop image editors and older devices cannot open AVIF yet. Converting to PDF solves that instantly. note that AVIF transparency is not supported in PDF — transparent areas are filled with a white background.
Your AVIF images are placed onto PDF pages in the order you upload them — ideal for turning photos, scans, or screenshots into a single shareable document.

Frequently
Asked
Questions
Quick answers about this PurePDF workflow.
How do I convert AVIF to PDF?
Upload your AVIF files on this page. PurePDF opens the conversion workspace with PDF preselected — click Convert and collect the finished file from the download hub.
What happens to transparency when converting to PDF?
PDF does not support transparency. Transparent areas in your AVIF file are filled with a solid white background. If you need to keep transparency, convert to PNG or WebP instead.
Can I convert an animated AVIF?
PDF is a still-image format, so the first frame of the animation is converted. To keep motion, use a video format or keep the original.
Why is my PDF file larger than the original AVIF?
PDF prioritizes compatibility over compression, so files are usually larger than AVIF. That is normal and expected.
Is the AVIF to PDF converter free?
Yes — free with no signup, no watermarks, and no daily task limit.
Are my files private?
Files are transferred over encrypted HTTPS, processed, and automatically deleted from our servers within minutes. Nothing is stored, shared, or used for anything else.
Can I batch convert multiple AVIF files?
Yes. Upload as many AVIF files as you need and convert them to PDF in one run.
