WEBP vs AVIF: what changes when you convert
WEBP (WebP) was introduced in 2010 by Google and is best known for website images — smaller than JPG and PNG at the same quality. AVIF (AV1 Image File Format), created by the Alliance for Open Media (Google, Netflix, Mozilla), is the better choice when you need maximum web compression — typically 50% smaller than JPG.
Why convert? AVIF files are typically much smaller than WEBP — expect a noticeable reduction in file size.
Upload one file or a whole batch — conversion happens over a secure HTTPS connection and finished files are automatically deleted from our servers within minutes. Most desktop image editors and older devices cannot open AVIF yet.

Preguntas frecuentes
Respuestas rápidas sobre esta herramienta de PurePDF.
How do I convert WEBP to AVIF?
Upload your WEBP files on this page. PurePDF opens the conversion workspace with AVIF preselected — click Convert and collect the finished files from the download hub.
Will converting WEBP to AVIF reduce quality?
No. AVIF supports lossless compression, so every pixel of your WEBP image is preserved exactly.
Is transparency preserved when converting WEBP to AVIF?
Yes. Both WEBP and AVIF support alpha transparency, so transparent backgrounds survive the conversion intact.
How much smaller will my file be as AVIF?
It depends on the image content, but AVIF typically produces significantly smaller files than WEBP. Photographic images see the biggest savings.
Is the WEBP to AVIF converter free?
Yes — free with no signup, no watermarks, and no daily task limit.
Are my files private?
Files are transferred over encrypted HTTPS, processed, and automatically deleted from our servers within minutes. Nothing is stored, shared, or used for anything else.
Can I batch convert multiple WEBP files?
Yes. Upload as many WEBP files as you need and convert them to AVIF in one run.
