PDF vs HEIC: what changes when you convert

PDF (Portable Document Format) was introduced in 1993 by Adobe and is best known for documents, printing, sharing multi-page content. HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container), created by the MPEG group; adopted by Apple in iOS 11, is the better choice when you need iPhone camera photos (half the size of JPG at the same quality).

Why convert? HEIC files are typically much smaller than PDF — expect a noticeable reduction in file size.

Each page of your PDF is rendered as a separate HEIC image, so a 10-page document produces 10 images ready to use in slides, websites, or messages.

Preguntas frecuentes

Respuestas rápidas sobre esta herramienta de PurePDF.

How do I convert PDF to HEIC?

Upload your PDF file on this page. PurePDF opens the conversion workspace with HEIC preselected — click Convert and collect the finished files from the download hub.

Will converting PDF to HEIC reduce quality?

HEIC uses lossy compression, so there is a small quality trade-off in exchange for a much smaller file. At the default quality setting the difference is invisible for photos and everyday images.

What resolution are the HEIC images?

Pages are rendered at roughly twice their on-screen size, or three times on the High quality setting — enough detail to read small print and to print the result.

Do scanned PDFs work?

Yes. A scanned page is already an image, so it converts to HEIC exactly as it appears in the document.

How much smaller will my file be as HEIC?

It depends on the image content, but HEIC typically produces significantly smaller files than PDF. Photographic images see the biggest savings.

Is the PDF to HEIC converter free?

Yes — free with no signup, no watermarks, and no daily task limit.

Are my files private?

Files are transferred over encrypted HTTPS, processed, and automatically deleted from our servers within minutes. Nothing is stored, shared, or used for anything else.

Can I convert every page of the PDF?

Yes. Every page is converted, one HEIC image per page, and a document of more than one page is delivered as a zip.
